At 21.9 percent, Botswana has one of the highest HIV prevalence rates in Sub-Saharan Africa. Approximately 331, 000 people in Botswana under the age of 49 live with HIV (UNAIDS, 2013).
AIHA has worked in Botswana since 2008 across the health sector for HIV counselling and testing, care and support health in media, and orphaned and vulnerable children. With support from PEPFAR and the United States Government team in country, AIHA currently manages three twinning partnerships in Botswana:
- Botswana Institute of Health Sciences / African Palliative Care Association (2007-present)
- Botswana Institute of Health Sciences / Ohio University School of Health Sciences (2013-present)
- Botswana Ministry of Health, Division of Gender Affairs / Foundation for Professional Development (2014-present)
