Health Policy & Management
Stronger Local Leadership. More Resilient Health Systems.

Health systems are only as strong as the people who lead and manage them. Policies may set the direction, but local leaders turn those policies into action at health centers, clinics, hospitals, and communities.
At AIHA, we understand that empowering health managers and policy leaders to build self-sustaining, country-led health systems that withstand global shocks is critical, so we collaborate with ministries of health, district officials, and frontline administrators to transform health policy into frontline practice.
By strengthening local governance, optimizing human resources for health, and embedding climate-resilient management strategies, AIHA is helping ensure that health systems in low- and middle-income countries aren’t just reactive, but proactive and built to endure.
PROGRAM EXAMPLES
In Ethiopia, AIHA’s Leadership Incubation Program for Health, funded by the Gates Foundation, helped prepare the next generation of public health leaders. From 2019 to 2025, the program equipped emerging professionals with practical skills in leadership, stakeholder engagement, communication, conflict management, team building, and organizational change. By April 2025 when the project concluded, 282 Ethiopian health professionals had completed the six-month-long LIP-H training program – 145 women and 137 men.
AIHA is strengthening human resource management and practices in Ethiopia’s pharmaceutical supply chain workforce to improve the availability of pharmaceutical commodities throughout the country. This project focuses on building the capacity of the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Supply Service in areas including division of labor, workflow management, and collaboration with the private sector. We are also building institutional and human resource capacity at EPSS through targeted training, leadership development, and mentorship.
