Environmental Health

Climate Disasters Are Inevitable. Health Systems Capable of Withstanding Them Are Imperative.

Climate change is reshaping the future of health. As extreme weather, environmental disasters, and shifting disease patterns place new pressure on communities, local health workers are often the first to respond.

AIHA helps institutions prepare for these challenges by strengthening workforce capacity, supporting climate-informed care, and helping partners plan for more resilient health systems. Our work focuses on practical, locally grounded solutions that help communities adapt, respond, and recover.

PROGRAM EXAMPLE

Through the Dr. Joseph R. Masci Legacy Project, AIHA convened a Strategic Stakeholders Meeting in the Philippines to advance climate medicine and strengthen medical education. The meeting brought together leaders from the University of the Philippines Manila, Philippine General Hospital, Columbia University, the University of Colorado, and other partners to develop a shared roadmap for integrating climate medicine across medical training and clinical practice. This work is helping prepare current and future health professionals to recognize and respond to the growing health impacts of climate change and embedding climate-informed care into clinical practice at Philippine General Hospital.
