What We Do › Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV › Southern Ukraine AIDS Education Center

Working closely with partners at the Odessa Oblast Hospital, AIHA established the Southern Ukrainian AIDS Education Center (SUAEC) to train other care providers in the former Soviet Union using the highly successful Odessa Model of healthcare delivery reorganization using the Plus-PMTCT-Plus approach.

SUAEC curricula are designed specifically to address the needs of healthcare systems throughout Eurasia as they seek to meet the challenges of HIV/AIDS in general and maternal-to-child transmission in particular. The curricula are consistent with international PMTCT strategies and best practices and reflect the specific adaptations that have been successful in Odessa. SUAEC is co-located with a PMTCT model center and thus affords onsite practical experience for its trainees.
