Our main goal is reforming the Kyrgyzstan health system. An important step is high-quality nursing training, as well as improvement of nurses already involved in practical work. This plays a decisive role in improvement of nursing and, thus, the general level of services.

Achievement of this goal would be impossible without the rigorous application of standards in nurses' training and practice. Realization of the importance of standards resulted in their development and integration into practice. Application of standards facilitates nurses' work, reduces costs, helps improve time management, and improves the quality of patient care.

We studied standards necessary for the existing public health system and specifically for nurses and nursing students. Working nurses and medical college instructors were involved in developing and adapting standards. This helped address issues and problems existing in current practice. These comprehensive standards have been written in the form of a text book.
