At children's hospital #4, we have achieved success in the improvement of quality patient care. We believe that innovations for improving care should include a comprehensive training program as well as a material and technical base.
The training program includes development of a unit of lessons for nurses to address the following clinical problems: age-dependent overall care of the sick child, care of the patient with respiratory insufficiency, cardiac disorders, and post-operative management of the patient following maxillofacial or ophthalmologic surgery.
The material and technical base includes: equipping post-operative wards for patients in the surgery units, inclusion of post-operative nurses within the staff of the hospital, preparation of instructions for nurses caring for post-operative patients, and preparation of an observation list for post-operative patients as well as those with bronchial asthma. These materials were prepared and are now used in our clinical practice.
As a result of our program, the quality of patient care has improved and the role of the nurse has been enhanced.
