A series of videoconferences between nurses in Moscow and Dubna, Russia and various US sites has stimulated open discussion on topics ranging from teamwork and communication within the hospital setting to quality improvement to maternal and child care.
Russian nurses from several partner hospitals in Moscow--including Savior's Hospital for Peace and Charity, Central Clinical Hospital and Pirogov First Municipal Hospital--have joined colleagues from Dubna's Hospital No. 9 and Central City Hospital to meet via satellite with colleagues from all over the US: at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York; Jewish Hospital and Healthcare Systems in Louisville, Kentucky; the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, Michigan.
The videoconferences have enabled Russian nurses from several partnerships to open new lines of communication with each other, while some of the US partners have established relationships with nurses from a different region. For example, prior to the videoconferencing initiative, nurses at Henry Ford Health System primarily communicated with their partners at L'viv Oblast Clinical Hospital in Ukraine.
"Through a series of conferences addressing a diversity of clinical and management subjects we have reached a broad NIS nursing audience and renewed acquaintances visually," said Sharon Weinstein, RN, AIHA NIS nursing liaison. "We look forward to expansion of the system in order to minimize travel times and target specific topics consistent with regional needs."
