Partners Create Institutional Web Pages
What We Do › Information Systems › Other Resources › Health Care without Borders: Promoting Partnerships through Technology › Partners Create Institutional Web Pages
As the World Wide Web grows in popularity, partner hospitals have made their mark on the Internet's graphical interface. Most partners have created their own pages, which contain information and photos of hospitals, physicians and partnerships. Many partner pages are in the native language of the country in which they were produced and also in English.
Doctors say the pages have helped raise the profile of their hospitals in their communities, providing both patients and health care professionals with an effective learning and communications tool. "Our web pages allow us to use sound and sight to increase awareness among people of certain poisons," said Elzhan Birtanov, MD, information coordinator and director of the Almaty Toxicology Information Center in Kazakstan.
The site for Children's Hospital for Respiratory Diseases in Zagreb, Croatia provides educational information on asthma and tuberculosis and the services the hospital provides. Hospitals in Cluj, Romania include information on occupational and environmental hazards, a focus of their partnership.
Igor Semenenko, information coordinator and neonatologist at Odessa Oblast Hospital, became so proficient at creating Web pages as he developed ones for his hospital, he taught his US partners at Coney Island Hospital how to set up their own home page.
