With access to the World Wide Web and the click of a mouse, AIHA's Web site (http://www.aiha.com) allows health care professionals, government officials and students to link to a world of information about health care in the NIS and CEE. Since its beginning in 1995, AIHA has continuously expanded the amount of material and scope of the site, making it one of the most comprehensive collections of information on the region and of NIS and CEE regional language medical material on the Web.
AIHA news and programmatic information are available in both English and Russian. Journal articles and health information can be obtained in a variety of languages of the region.
Issues of AIHA's quarterly journal CommonHealth and quarterly reports can be found online in the AIHA Publications section. Up-to-date reporting of program activities is also in Connections, AIHA's electronic newsletter, published twice a month.
The site showcases AIHA partners by providing an overview of each partnership's activities and links to Web pages they maintain. It also furnishes links to online resources on medical, health and technical assistance issues, from women's health to diabetes. For example, Children's Hospital No. 2 in Kiev, Ukraine has developed nurse education programs on infection control using AIHA's Web site to obtain translated infection control course materials.
The AIHA Web site also helps partners and others explore such topics as using Cyrillic fonts, chat software and videoconferencing.
In addition to providing information about AIHA programs and partnerships, the Web includes links to important online medical resources like the Russian Medical Matrix, a translated guide to medical resources on the Internet. The site also includes AIHA's multilingual document library, which indexes hundreds of foreign language health documents and offers access to some online.
A general resources section contains a variety of useful links, including information about grants and funding opportunities, other projects and organizations working in development, and links relating to travel, currency exchange and weather worldwide. The country health information Web pages focus on providing the most recent medical news and information on health care institutions and organizations working in NIS and CEE countries.
