WHO's European Health for All strategy serves as the starting point for regional Healthy Communities-Healthy Cities initiatives. Most of the activities of the Slovak national network of Healthy Cities correspond with the specific targets of this strategy. The WHO regional office in Copenhagen is currently preparing a new version of this important document, titled Health for All Targets for the 21st Century. The presentation will analyze the changes and challenges this document presents for the Slovak national network of Healthy Cities. Special emphasis will be placed on unhealthy lifestyle habits (smoking, drug abuse, alcohol consumption), the environment, and social and economic issues, such as housing, unemployment, treatment of ethnic minorities and sustainable development.
Health Planning Panel
Gejza Legen, moderator and presenter
A panel of four presenters will address the specific conditions of Slovak cities currently working on health profile/health plan documents. The introductory lecture on "Health Planning Structure" is based on WHO's booklet, Health and Sustainable Development Planning, and will outline the steps necessary to achieve a successful City Health Plan proposal. City health profiles of Turcianske Teplice, Bratislava and Banska Bystrica will also be presented. Profiles will include information on the organizational structure, level of multi-sectoral cooperation, quality and variety of involved partners, and expectations and objectives of community health plans.
Gejza Legen is chairman of the Association of Healthy Cities of Slovakia Steering Committee.
