Evidence-based Practice

What We Do › Evidence-based Practice

"The research principles behind evidence-based practice makes it possible to obtain statistically valid data that precisely fit a given clinical problem. It changes how our doctors think. It can't fail to catch the attention of people who genuinely want to provide the highest level of medical care that is possible today."

Yuri Medyantsev, internist at Tomsk City Hospital and information coordinator at the facility’s AIHA-established Learning Resource Center (Tomsk, Russia/Bemidji, Minnesota, partnership)

The adoption of evidence-based practice in medicine is critical not only for ensuring the best possible patient outcomes, but also the most rational use of medications and other resources. Promoting evidenced-based clinical practices is one of the core components of AIHA's strategy to improve health outcomes in its partnership communities around the world. Evidence-based medicine helps support both immediate and long-term improvements in care at individual, institutional, and systemic levels.

Projects

AIHA’s efforts to improve partner access to evidence-based clinical research through specific programmatic activities include:

Learning Resource Center Project

AIHA’s Learning Resource Centers (LRCs) are designed to enable partners to overcome isolation from information that has discouraged the adaptation of clinical practices to reflect changing international standards of healthcare provision. In addition to providing a direct link to current information sources, LRCs also offer new opportunities for education, communication, and collaboration within the AIHA partnership network, as well as with the international health community.
