What We Do › Domestic Violence › Primary Healthcare Partnerships
Physical and sexual abuse affects millions of women and girls worldwide and many studies show women’s experience with violence has direct consequences not only for their own wellbeing, but also for that of their families and communities. WHO research shows that more than 40 population-based, quantitative studies conducted in 24 countries spanning four continents indicate that between 26-52 percent of all women have been physically abused by their partners at some time during their lives.
Through AIHA’s Primary Healthcare Program, ongoing practitioner training, workshops, and skills-based exercises teach clinicians how to recognize the signs of abuse, effectively broach this often taboo subject with their patients, and get victims of domestic violence the support and assistance they need.
