What We DoDomestic Violence › Healthy Communities Partnerships

Once domestic violence has been identified as a priority for a partnership, professionals are exposed to an array of community-based organizations and intervention approaches that address the issue. This is accomplished through a series of partnership exchanges and other activities.

After conducting a needs assessment, for example, AIHA’s Constanta (Romania)/Louisville (Kentucky) partners determined that programs focusing on issues of concern for women, including depression, intimate partner violence, and smoking cessation, would help improve the overall health status of the population in the Black Sea port city of Constanta. As a result, they carried out a series of public outreach and awareness campaigns and established in Constanta an Office for Women, which responds to domestic violence cases. The office houses a domestic violence hotline, serves as a walk-in referral center, and offers a variety of other related services and support.
