Through a network of more than 30 primary healthcare partnerships in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, AIHA has helped establish some 70 primary care, family medicine, and women’s wellness centers that provide comprehensive, high-quality clinical care to thousands of people each year.
During initial community health assessments performed soon after these partnerships were formed, dental health and hygiene emerged as a key concern at a number of sites. Many surveys and assessments revealed an almost universal need for dental restoration among the adult population, which prompted many partners to implement not only training programs for dental health professionals, but also prevention programs aimed at children.
