April 26, 2005 - April 29, 2005

The Regional Knowledge Hub for the Care and Treatment of HIV/AIDS in Eurasia and the American International Health Alliance (AIHA) conducted a seminar under the project, Principles for Providing Palliative Care and Support for People Living with HIV/AIDS: Non-Medical Aspects of Care and Support Provision, supported by the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Through the seminar, Knowledge Hub/AIHA trained 86 participants from 10 regional care teams, each consisting of approximately 6-10 individuals, in a multidisciplinary approach to providing palliative care to people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Each team included medical care providers, psychologists, psychotherapists from AIDS centers, social workers and volunteers.

The curriculum included advance care planning, communicating with families and patients about end-of-life care, pain and symptom management, and psychosocial, psychiatric, and spiritual issues.
